Xtra Time Web Desk: Can you ever imagine Indian cricket fans boycotting the social media accounts of Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. Well that has been the case with Sri Lankan cricketers as the fans have started unfollowing them following their dismal performances in recent time. Sri Lankan cricket is genuinely passing through crisis as the country’s cricket fans have started a social media campaign to unfollow the national cricketers. Following the poor show against England in the recently concluded white ball series, hundreds of fans joined a social media campaign to boycott the social media accounts of the star cricketers. Kushal Perera led Sri Lanka suffered a humiliating series loss against England, losing all the three T20Is. It was the fifth consecutive series loss by the Lankans in the shortest format.

A hashtag #unfollowcricketers began to trend on facebook in Sri Lanka on Sunday as thousands of fans boycotted the social media accounts of Kushal Mendis who was appointed the vice captain of the white ball team. According to reports, the facebook pages of vice-captain Kusal Mendis and opener Dhanushka Gunathilaka were unfollowed by the fans.

“The aim of the campaign is to unfollow failed Sri Lankan cricketers from their verified profiles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter,” said a popular cricket website.

Meanwhile, a video is doing rounds on the social media which shows Sri Lankan players namely Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis were spotted enjoying after the T20I series whitewash. Both the players seem to be having some fun at a public place in Durham.
