Internet Desk: Sports personalities all over the country expressed their deep condolences to the families of those who died in the flyover collapse incident in North Kolkata on Thursday.
Almost 25 people has died in the tragic incident that rocked the city.
Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri took the micro blogging site to express his grief. He tweeted, “Thoughts with Kolkata at the moment. Really hurts to see such carelessness prove so costly. We need to start valuing every life.”
Ex- Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also expressed his grief on his twitter handle. “Heartfelt condolences to all those deceased in the #kolkata bridge collapse. May their souls rest in peace. Hope those injured recover soon.”
Former Atletico de Kolkata midfielders Jofre Mateu and Borja Fernandes expressed their grief on Twitter.
Borja wrote,“Terrible news we receive from Calcutta! All support to the families of the victims and the wounded. #kolkata #kolkata #kolkata”.
Jofre tweeted,” Absolutely shocked with d tragedy in Kolkata. Hope everything will be ok as fast as possible. My best wishes fr those affected. #KolkataTragedy.
Former cricketer turned commentator VVS Laxman, who is always a favourite amongst the cricket loving people of Kolkata tweeted, “Shocked 2 know about the collapse of the flyover in Kolkata.My heartfelt condolences 2 the families of all those affected. #kolkataTragedy”.
Indian footballers Pritam Kotal and Jeje also tweeted about the incident.
Pritam wrote, “Just speechless..My thoughts are with the families of those who lost….”
“Heartfelt condolences to the effected injured &departed souls of the collapsed Vivekananda Fly over My prayers’ with you all #Kolkata “.
Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the #KolkataFlyover tragedy. Those responsible should be punished for their negligence. It should never happen again!
Mohun Bagan striker Cornell Glen was one of the first to express his condolence. “My thoughts and prayers goes out to the people of Kolkata”.
India’s Women’s team goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan also expressed his sadness.”My thoughts and prayers go out to the people suffering from the collapse of the bridge in #Kolkata. My heart goes out to them. <3 “
Australia womens team vice-captain Alex Blackwell also condoled the death of several people in the incident ahead of their Women World Twenty20 cricket summit clash against the West Indies tomorrow. “First of all I would like to offer my condolence to the families affected by the bridge collapse that we learnt about when we arrived. Obviously its a very tough time, and all the emergency crew that are currently working on it. Were with them,” she said.
East Bengal and Mohun Bagan players will be playing wearing the armband as a mark of respect towards the Kolkata flyover victims.
