South African cricketers to miss few matches at the start of IPL 2023 because of this reason

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a setback for a few IPL franchises, South African cricketers who part of the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Netherlands will miss the first few matches of IPL 2023. The Proteas cricketers will only be available for IPL 2023 after April 3, that is four days after the cash rich league starts on March 31.

South Africa must defeat Netherlands in the ODI series in order to immediately qualify for the 2023 World Cup, which will take place later this year in India. Hence Cricket South Africa wants to field a full-strength Proteas ODI side.

Proteas players including Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, David Miller, Dewald Brevis and Aiden Markram will only be available for their respective teams after April 3. The franchises affected by Cricket South Africa’s decision are Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, and Punjab Kings.

As per ESPNcricinfo, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has informed the BCCI that it wanted all its top players available for the two-match home ODI series against the Netherlands starting late March.

The South African team is slated to play on March 31 and April 2 in Benoni and Johannesburg, respectively in the upcoming ODI series against Netherlands.
