XtraTime Web Desk: The childhood coach of Sourav Ganguly, Ashoke Mustafi on Wednesday breathed his last. He was 86 years old. He is survived by his daughter who resides in England. It was Ashok Mustafi who gave the first lessons of cricket to former India captain Sourav Ganguly at the Dukhiram Cricket Coaching Centre.

The veteran coach was admitted to a city hospital after he became seriously ill. He was put under ventilation. The current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took all the initiative to admit his first coach at a private hospital on EM Bypass. After recovering, Mustafi Sir (popularly known by this name in Kolkata maidan) returned back to his residence. But his health conditions deteriorated ever since he returned from the hospital. Finally he breathed his last on the wee hours of Thursday. His body will be kept at the Peace Haven until his daughter arrives from UK for the last rites.

Ashok Mustafi will have a long lasting legacy as a coach, having produced as many as 20 first class cricketers. But one that stands out was none other than former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Ashok Mustafi is what Ramakant Archekar is to Mumbai cricket.

The Cricket Association of Bengal President Avishek Dalmiya said: "I am shocked and sad at the demise of Ashoke Mustafi Sir. His contribution to cricket, especially in shaping up careers would be remembered forever. Deepest condolences to his family. Pray to Almighty for his soul’s eternal peace."
