Shreyas Iyer to undergo operation on his injured back in London; to miss T20 WC and IPL 2023

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India middle order batter Shreyas Iyer will travel to London for surgery on his injured back, ruling him out of both the IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) had recommended Iyer undergo the surgery from the outset, but he had postponed it in the hope of playing games. However, the batter will now follow in the footsteps of fellow player Hardik Pandya, who also underwent surgery in London.

It is unclear when Iyer will undergo the operation, but recovery typically takes at least five months. This means his participation in the 50-over World Cup in India in October-November is uncertain. This news comes as a significant setback for both the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Indian cricket team.

Iyer has been the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, and his absence will be felt by the team. His absence from the Indian cricket team for the WTC finals against Australia is also a blow, as Iyer is a key player in the Indian lineup. Nonetheless, the team will have to find a way to cope without him and attempt to secure victory without his contributions.
