Shreyas Iyer to undergo operation, likely to be out from action for at least five months

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a huge blow for Team India, Shreyas Iyer will need to undergo a surgery and is likely to miss out of action for almost five months. The injury may see Shreyas missing the IPL 2023 and World Test Championship final against Australia in June. The KKR captain is also doubtful for the 50 overs World Cup in India.

Already Jasprit Bumrah is out of action since last September, Rishabh Pant is recovering from his horrific car accident. And now Shreyas Iyer will also be unavailable.

Iyer has been advised of surgery by a Mumbai-based doctor. Shreyas Iyer has been troubled with recurring back injury. He was recently at the National Cricket Academy. But the latest development does come as a huge setback for Shreyas and India.

Iyer was out of action due to injury concerns in the lead-up to the 2021 T20 World Cup. Even though he was included as a reserve, he did not get a game. He did not feature in a single game for Team India in the 2022 edition as well. If he miss the WTC final and the forthcoming 50-overs World Cup, it will really be unfortunate for the youngster.
