Shreyas Iyer to turn up for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy ahead of England series | Report

Xtra Time Web Desk: In a bid to prepare well for the upcoming test series against England, Team India middle order batter Shreyas Iyer has decided to turn up for Mumbai in their next Ranji Trophy fixture against Andhra Pradesh starting from January 12-15. According to a report in Indian Express, Iyer opted to play the Ranji Trophy game instead of the taking part in India A versus England Lions match in Ahmedabad.

Iyer’s performance during the recent Test series in South Africa fell short of expectations, prompting the right-handed batsman to prioritize honing his skills ahead of the crucial five-match Test series against England, commencing on January 25 in Hyderabad. Iyer could only manage to score 41 runs from two test matches at an average of 13.67. He had scores of 31, 6, 0 and 4 in the four innings, highlighting his struggles in the rainbow nation.

The inclusion of Shreyas will bolster the Mumbai squad as the 41-time Ranji Trophy champions will miss the services of Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube. While Sarfaraz has secured a spot in the India A squad, Dube is set to contribute to India’s T20 team in the series against Afghanistan. Iyer’s inclusion is expected to strengthen Mumbai’s batting lineup, enhancing their prospects in the second round of the Ranji Trophy.
