Internet Desk: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar is likely to step down from his post in a couple of weeks time. Manohar a Nagpur-based lawyer is on the verge of resigning from his top post, somewhere around the middle of May. The decision many believe in BCCI is influenced by Lodha Panel recommendations.

The Supreme Court recently ordered BCCI to follow all the Lodha Panel recommendations. One of the recommendations was that no one can hold two posts at the same time in two governing bodies.

It seems that Manohar is well on course to follow that recommendation. If he is elected as the chief of ICC later this month, Manohar will become the first independent chairman of world cricket’s governing body.

Although the president himself is yet to speak on this issue, his close confidantes at the BCCI believe that the Nagpur-based lawyer is likely to call it quits a week before the International Cricket Council (ICC) elects its first independent chairman. If elected as the ICC’s first ever independent chairman in May 2016, Shashank Manohar will be eligible to hold his office until 2021.

Mr. Manohar is currently enjoying his holiday at Mahabaleshwar near Pune, with his family. According to sources, Manohar is likely to submit his resignation letter immediately after he resumes office after returning from his holiday, around the 2nd or the 3rd week of May.

The 58-year-old took his current office as the president of Indian cricket’s governing body last October after the demise of the erstwhile BCCI president, Jagmohan Dalmiya in September 2015.
