Shardul Thakur to travel to Australia along with Shami & Siraj; Deepak Chahar likely to be ruled out | T20 World Cup

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a setback for Indian cricket team, Deepak Chahar is also likely to be ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup after Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Deepak, who is now at the National Cricket Academy will not travel to Australia on Thursday along with Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur. Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi too will accompany them.

Chahar has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to back spasm even as India are waiting to name a replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah in the 15-man squad. Chahar was named as part of the reserves for the World Cup, which will be held in Australia from October 16.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj is also in contention to replace Jasprit Bumrah after his impressive show in the recently concluded series against South Africa. Siraj was named the Player of the Series in the ODI series with 5 wickets from 3 matches. He looked in rhythm with the new ball and can be handy on bouncy tracks in Australia.

The Indian team management would like to assess all the three pacers – Shami, Siraj and Shardul in Australian conditions before taking a call on Jasprit Bumrah;s replacement. As of now Shami looks frontrunner though. The deadline for naming the replacement closes on October 15.
