Shardul, Sanju shines as India beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets to clinch ODI series

Xtra Time Web Desk: KL Rahul led Indian team defeated Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in the 2nd ODI to seal the three-match series 2-0 at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday. Shardul Thakur starred with the ball, picking three wickets while Sanju Samson top scored with 43* to chase 161 runs set by the hosts. This was India’s 6th straight series win in ODIs against Zimbabwe.

Deepak Hooda now has won 16 matches on the trot while playing for India. It is a world record.

Chasing 162 runs to win, India did not have a great start as captain KL Rahul was out cheaply after just facing 5 balls. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill steadied the innings . Gill continued his good form with the bat, scoring 33 runs off 34 balls. He once again looked in good touch but could not convert into a big score. Ishan Kishan did not have a good outing after being dismissed for 6.

But Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson made full use of the opportunity. Hooda started well but was cleaned up by Sikandar Raza with a yorker on 25. But Samson made a bold statement with an unbeaten 43-run knock off just 39 balls. His innings included 3 fours and 4 sixes as India chased down the target in 25.4 overs.
