Shami yet to recover from an ankle injury ahead of England series | Report
Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India pace spearhead, Mohammed Shami, is likely to miss the start of the five match test series against England due to an ankle injury sustained during the 2023 World Cup. Despite being named in the Test squad against South Africa, Shami did not travel to the rainbow nation. According to a report in Indian Express, Shami has not recovered fully from an ankle injury.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) clarified in a press release that Shami's participation in the Test series against Proteas was subject to his fitness, as he had not received clearance from the BCCI Medical Team. As of now, Shami has not resumed bowling, and it is expected to take more time for him to attain full fitness.

Shami has been spending time with his family in Amroha. He has been posting videos of playing badminton and batting in the nets as well.
The BCCI is likely adopting a cautious approach and will not rush Shami's return, especially with the home advantage in the five-match Test series against England. With bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah available, and spin likely to play a significant role, India can afford to manage without their full pace attack.
The first test between India and England will start from January 25 in Hyderabad.
