Shakib Al Hasan launches cancer foundation on his 36th birthday to support underprivileged patients in Dhaka

Xtra Time Web Desk: Bangladesh T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan on Friday announced the launch of the Shakib Al Hasan Cancer Foundation in Dhaka. It was also Shakib’s 36th birthday. The foundation aims to support the treatment of underprivileged cancer patients in Bangladesh, where many people struggle to afford costly cancer treatments or diagnoses. Shakib’s goal is to build a world-class cancer hospital in the country, as he believes that early diagnosis is crucial for better treatment and survival.

During the launching ceremony, Shakib emphasized that cancer is often referred to as a deadly disease, but succumbing to fear won’t help us overcome it. He also expressed his dedication to helping those who cannot afford cancer treatments or diagnoses. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hasan Papon was present at the ceremony and has pledged to support the foundation.

This is not Shakib’s first foundation. His previous foundation, The Shakib Al Foundation, has done commendable work during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis in Bangladesh. The foundation distributed essential items such as food and medical supplies to underprivileged communities affected by the pandemic. With the launch of the Shakib Al Hasan Cancer Foundation, Shakib aims to continue his philanthropic work and make a significant impact on cancer patients in Bangladesh.

The foundation’s efforts are particularly crucial in Bangladesh, where the cancer burden is high, and access to quality cancer care is limited. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), cancer is the sixth leading cause of death in the country, with over 200,000 new cases and 150,000 deaths recorded annually. The Shakib Al Hasan Cancer Foundation’s focus on early diagnosis and treatment will go a long way in improving cancer care and reducing cancer-related deaths in the country.
