Setback for Team India as this cricketer will miss T20I series against New Zealand | INDvsNZ

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will miss the upcoming three match T20I series against New Zealand. The cricketer from Maharashtra has suffered an injury in his wrist. He did not travel to Ranchi for the first ODI which is scheduled on Friday, Jan 27. Ruturaj, it is learnt has reported to the National Cricket Academy on Tuesday. BCCI is very unlikely to announce a replacement.

The Indian ODI squad already have multiple options in the opening slot. Ishan Kishan, Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill are the other openers in the squad. Prithvi is making a comeback in the Indian team after a string of good performances in domestic cricket.

Ruturaj also missed the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka because of the same wrist injury. Apart from Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson are also missing the T20 series with injuries. Iyer is currently at the NCA for a back injury. Sanju Samson is in Kochi undergoing physiotherapy for his knee injury.

Meanwhile, the players in the Indian T20I squad are scheduled to reach Ranchi on Wednesday. The Indian players are likely to train at the JSCA stadium on Thursday. The second and third T20I matches will be played in Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
