Sandeep Lamichhane arrested on his return to Nepal for rape charges

Xtra Time Web Desk: Star Nepalese cricketer Sandip Lamichhane was on Thursday arrested on entering his country on grounds of rape charges. Lamichhane was taken into custody after an arrest warrant was issued nearly a month back.

Earlier Lamichhane had posted on his Facebook page that he was returning home to fight the accusations. “I will fully cooperate in all stages of investigation and will fight legal battle to prove my innocence.

Lamichhane, who was also the captain of the national team was suspended after a court in the country issued the arrest warrant on September 8. He was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in a Kathmandu hotel room in August.

The news broke when he was playing in the Caribbean Premier League, due to which he did not return to the country.

Lamichhane has been a poster boy in Nepal cricket. He played a huge role in Nepal getting the one-day international status by International Cricket Council in 2018. The leg spinner’s big break came when he was snapped up by the Delhi Capitals for the lucrative Indian Premier League in 2018.
