Safikul & Rajashree Emerged The Fastest Athelete

Kolkata : Safikul Mondal of East Bengal Club and Rajashree Mondal of Pioneer SA emerged the fastest athlete of the 5th Netaji Subhas State Games athletic event at the SAI, Eastern Centre on Tuesday.

Safikul clocked 10.77s to take gold while Rajashree timed 12.1s to win the corresponding race for women. Safikul won a sprint double taking 200m gold in 21.7s. Annwesha Roy Pradhan of Jalpaiguri DSA took the women’s 200m gold in 25.1s relegating Rajashree to the fourth place.

It was a grand double for middle distace runner, Shashi Bhusan Singh of Howrah DSA as he took gold in men’s 800m and 1500 with the time of 1:54.3s and 3:58.3s respectively.

Heptathlete Swapna Barman of Jaipaiguri DSA also won a double annexing gold in 100m hurdles with a time of 14.2s and javelin with a throw of 40.37m.

Jhuma Khatun of Eastern Railway SA registered a double winning the 800m in 2:06.5s and 1500m in 4:16.4s.

As many as 29 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze medals were decided in the two-day event. Women’s 10,000 run was not held due to paucity of entires.
