Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket is planning to field a second-string side for the proposed white ball series against Afghanistan. The three match ODI series will likely be played in between the World Test Championships final and India’s tour to the Caribbean. There is a possibility that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can be rested.
All the Indian cricketers were involved in a gruelling IPL 2023 season. The players in the test squad will travel immediately a day after the final to London for the ICC World Test Championships final against Australia to be played at the Oval from June 7-11.
The selectors are mulling the idea of resting a few senior cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma before they travel to the Caribbean for a full tour against West Indies involving two tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.
With the only window for the Afghanistan series between June 20-30, the BCCI might have to squeeze in the series during this time and play a second-string side led by Hardik Pandya. Afghanistan Cricket Board President Mirwais Ashraf, who is in India for the IPL 2023 final will be meeting BCCI secretary Jay Shah and finalising the white ball series.
