Rohit Sharma optimistic about Australia tour later this year

XtraTime Web Desk: Indian cricket team’s star opener Rohit Sharma on Friday made it clear that he is eagerly waiting for the Test series against Australia later this year. The Hitman is hopeful that BCCI & Cricket Australia (CA) will somehow organize the Test series whenever sport returns after the COVID 19 crisis.

Rohit Sharma recalled the historic Test series win in Australia in 2018-19 and said the triumph was a huge morale booster to the team and that he is keen on an opportunity to tour Australia later this year.

“I personally love playing against Australia. Whenever there is an opportunity to play against Australia, it’s a different feeling. And last year, when we were in Australia, we won the series which has never happened before in the history of Indian cricket. It was a good thing for our team,” Rohit Sharma told David Warner during an Instagram live session.

“I know you guys (Warner and Steve Smith) were missing but what our bowlers did there and what our batters did there was a great boost.

“Actually, we were quite looking forward to this year’s tour as well. Somehow, I hope both the boards, India and Australian cricket boards, they somehow try and manage to do something to get this series underway.

“It will be great for the teams as well. It will also be a great way for people to start with. It will be a great way to kick off the cricket in the world, if that happens.

“I don’t know the IPL is likely to happen at some stage as well. But I don’t know what date or what month it will be. Once everything settles down a little bit, probably, it will be a better idea for us to judge.

“Really looking forward to that Australian tour, I hope it really happens in January or February or whenever it happens. We love coming to Australia, playing against you guys. Once you land in Australia nothing comes easy. Not just runs or the wickets but nothing comes easy there.”

Meanwhile, David Warner said he found it tough watching Australia lose the 4-Test series to India last year despite Tim Paine’s men coming up with valiant efforts. Warner was serving the 1-year ball-tampering ban and was not part of the Australian squad along with Steve Smith.

“When you guys come here, it’s like we’re playing an away game. We absolutely live it. It’s one of the things I like playing against England as well. There’s so much external stuff.

“Hands down, you guys have the best attack against left-handers. It’s a big credit to the way you guys prepared. Mentally, it was a great thing for Indian cricket but it was hard to watch as an Australian cricket player. One, I couldn’t do anything from the outside. The guys fought well,” Warner said.
