Xtra Time Web Desk: Ace India batsman Rohit Sharma on Friday was declared fit by the National Cricket Academy. The Mumbai batsman went through a fitness test at the NCA and was thereby declared fit. Rohit had an injury issue with his hamstring and hence decided to return back from UAE after playing in the IPL 2020. It is learnt Rohit will likely leave for Australia on December 14. He will quarantine there for 14 days. Rohit will be able to train from December 28 which means he will be ready for the third test at Sydney Cricket Ground and the following one at the Gabba.

Rohit had reached NCA on November 19 after deciding to return home instead of travelling with the rest of the Indian squad to Australia due to his father’s illness. Having worked on his fitness rigorously since then, Rohit has now been fit to resume national duty.

The swashbuckling batsman injured himself while playing in the IPL 2020 and also skipped a few matches. The selectors did not pick him for any squad for the tour of Australia. He surprised everyone by making himself available for the final three matches in the cash rich league, sparking controversy.

The BCCI had sent a release addressing the questions rising over Rohit’s absence from the ongoing tour Down Under, revealing that the batsman had returned home to accompany his ailing father.

“Rohit Sharma had to come back to Mumbai after the IPL to attend to his ailing father. His father is now recuperating well and that has allowed him to travel to the NCA and start his rehabilitation,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a statement after skipper Virat Kohli questioned his absence.
