Rohit Sharma creates a new world record by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner’s joint record

XtraTime Web Desk: Chasing a huge target of 323 runs to win in the first ODI against West Indies was not that easy as the Indians lost their opener Shikhar Dhawan during the second over of the chase. But after skipper Virat Kohli’s arrival another opener Rohit Sharma and Kohli took the game away from the visitors.

Earlier Kohli was hitting the ball through all parts of the ground; on the other hand Rohit played cautiously when the ball is new and completed his half century. After that he changed gears and started to reap Windies bowling to give them a knockout punch. In no time Rohit reached his 20th ODI century and became the only fourth Indian to achieve this feat. Though skipper Virat Kohli got out after his 36th ODI ton but Rohit remained till the end of the game to take the home side to home.

In the final hit he hit a huge six to give India a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series and reached his sixth score of more than 150 in ODIs. By doing so he outran legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and banned Aussie opener David Warner who had five 150+ score under their belt.

The right-hander has three double centuries to his name and is without a doubt, the best opener against the white ball.

“It’s our 5th or 6th double-century partnership, it’s a pleasure to bat with him. When we are batting like that, it’s good fun out there and we know the team will benefit from it as well,” captain Virat Kohli said at the end of the match.
