Internet Desk: India’s female shuttler PV Sindhu looked in complete control of her first match of Rio Olympics, registering a win against Hungary’s Laura Sarosi in straight games, score reading 21-8 and 21-9 . But, the men’s and women’s doubles team suffered defeat on Thursday.

Sindhu started brilliantly, with some flurry of smashes, taking 7-1 lead. The girl from Hungary earned some points, but the Indian still had a decent lead at 11-5. A few drop shots, and some powerful smashes down the line helped clinched the first game in commanding fashion. The score read 21-8.

After clinching the first game in such an easy manner, it was just a matter of time for Sindhu to seal the match in the second game itself.

The Hungarian player came up with a better performance, putting up some spirited display in the second game, but was still trailing 5-9. Sindhu began to take her game to another level, and hit some powerful smashes along with good play at the net, which helped her increase the lead to 17-6.  There was no stopping Sindhu, who won the second game, 21-9.

Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal faced tough resistance from Brazilian player Lohaynny Vicente but did just about enough at crucial junctures to post a win on the start of the tournament. She won 21-17, 21-17 in a match that lasted 39 minutes.

Saina is the number five seed in the competition and bears medal aspirations in the singles event. She would also be keen to improve her bronze medal showing at the London Olympics.
