Real Madrid signs David Alaba on a five-year contract, Antonio Conte tipped as Zidane’s successor

David Alaba has signed a five year contract with Real Madrid.

Xtra Time Web Desk: Spanish giants Real Madrid has signed David Alaba on a five year contract on Friday, the club confirmed on its social media handle twitter. The Bayern Munich defender will earn around £10.5m per year. The Australian international had earlier turned down offers from clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City to stay with Bayern. Real Madrid confirmed the signing on Friday evening and said Alaba would be unveiled after Euro 2020.

Alaba too expressed his excitement on a new challenge at Real Madrid. He tweeted, “I leave a special club for another special club. I am really happy and honored to join Real Madrid. After so many years in Munich I will face a new challenge and I will give my best to continue the club’s special history. @realmadrid

Alaba enjoyed a prolific 13 years in Bavaria, winning 10 Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues and six German Cups. Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus were also understood to be keen on signing the 28-year-old.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte is being considered as Zinedine Zidane’s successor at Real Madrid after they missed out on first-choice Max Allegri, according to a report in Sky News Italy. Zidane stepped down from his role as manager of Los Blancos for the second time this week. Real were hoping to sign Massimiliano Allegri but he chose to return to his former club Juventus after Andrea Pirlo was sacked.

Real Madrid have now turned to Conte, who is a free agent after parting ways with Inter Milan on Wednesday despite leading them to the Serie A title, due to the club’s need to make significant financial cuts.

Conte has an excellent profile with successful coaching stints at Juventus, Chelsea and now Inter Milan.
