Premier League: Players to wear ‘Black Lives Matter’ on shirts in place of names

XtraTime Web Desk: As a mark of support towards the Black Lives Matter movement, the Premier League players will be allowed to wear ‘Black Lives Matter” logo on their shirts instead of their names. The players will also wear a badge of gratitude for the NHS, the UK’s healthcare system.

The fans have to recognize the players from their movements on TV as the Premier League gets ready for restart after a hiatus for three months due to coronavirus pandemic. Say next time when you watch Liverpool play, you have to recognize Mohammad Salah by his movements on the field as he will not have his name behind.The players will wear the ‘Black Lives Matter’ logo and NHS badge for the first 12 matches of the restarted season 2019-20.

“The Premier League supports the players’ wish to have their names replaced by ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the back of their shirts for the first 12 matches of the restarted 2019/20 season,” a statement said.

“A Black Lives Matter logo will also feature on shirts for the remainder of the season, along with a badge thanking the NHS for their work during the COVID-19 crisis.

“In addition, the Premier League will support players who ‘take a knee’ before or during matches.

“The Premier League believes there is no room for racism, anywhere.”
The Premier League is all set for restart on Wednesday, June 17. Manchester City will host Arsenal while Aston Villa will take on Sheffield United.
