Premier League: Man U, Chelsea seals spot in Champions League, Tottenham & Leicester in Europa

Xtra Time Web Desk: Manchester United and Chelsea booked their spots in next season’s Champions League with wins from their respective fixtures on the final day of the Premier League 2020 season on Sunday. Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur were guaranteed of a spot in Europa League while Bournemouth and Watford were relegated to the Championship.


The focus was on the spot in the Champions League as three teams Manchester United, Chelsea and Leicester were in the fray to grab remaining two spots with Champions Liverpool and Manchester City.


Bruno Fernandes’ penalty strike and Jesse Lingard’s late goal helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to a 2-0 win to grab third place in the Premier League table. The Red Devils finished with 66 points, level with Chelsea but a better goal difference helped them secure third spot. The Blues too registered a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Wolves with two quick-fire first-half injury-time goals. Mason Mount and Oliver Giroud were on target for Frank Lampard’s side.

Fifth-placed Leicester, who had been in the top four for the majority of the season, will go into the Europa League group stages along with Tottenham who drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace.
