Premier League: Liverpool celebrate trophy lift with 5-3 win over Chelsea, United salvage 1-1 draw against West Ham

XtraTime Web Desk: Premier League Champions Liverpool celebrated their trophy lift with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday night. Naby Keita(23’), Trent Alexander-Arnold (38’), Gini Wijnaldum (43’), Roberto Firmino (55’) and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (84’) were on the scoresheet for the home side while Oliver Giroud (45+3’), Tammy Abraham (61’) and Christian Pulisic (73’) were on target for the Blues. In another Premier League fixture Manchester United came from behind to salvage a point against West Ham United at Old Trafford. The draw helped United leapfrog Chelsea to third spot. Both Chelsea and United are on 63 points each from 37 matches but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has a better goal difference. It will boil down to the final day as far as Champions League spot is concerned with Leicester too in fray with 62 points.


A stunner from Naby Keita gave Liverpool the lead in the 23 rd minute at Anfield. Trent Alexander-Arnold doubled the lead for Reds I the 38th minute with a fine free-kick. Gini Wijnaldum made it 3-0 before the break for Jorgen Klopp’s side. Olivier Giroud pulled one back for the Blues (45+3’) at the stroke of half time. Roberto Firmino made it 4-1 for Liverpool with a fine header off a cross from Alexander in the 55th minute. The visitors reduced the margin again through substitute Tammy Abraham in the 61st minute.

Christian Pulisic was at his best again as he brought Chelsea to within one with a fine turn and shot to make it 4-3 in the 71st minute. Substitue Alex Oxlade Chamberlain made it 5-3 for the hosts in the final minutes of the match.


In another match Manchester United was a goal down after West Ham was given a lead from penalty by Michail Antonio in the injury time of first half. Mason Greenwood making his 50th appearance for United equalized with a low drive just after the break.


Chelsea hosts Wolves while Manchester United travels to Leicester, who needs to win to secure a top-four spot.
