Xtra Time Web Desk: Chelsea recorded an emphatic 2-1 over Manchester City in a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night to hand Liverpool the title for the first time in 30 years. Christian Pulisic and Willian were on the score sheet for the Blues while Kevin de Bruyne scored for City.

The result helped Jurgen Kolpp’s men to be crowned the champions with 86 points from 31 matches so far while Manchester City after the loss to Chelsea is on 63 points from 31 games. Chelsea extended the lead to five points over fifth placed Manchester United who is on 49 points.

Liverpool was hoping City to lose a point against Blues which would see them win the 19th top flight title after 30 years. The club from Anfield was crowned the champions of Premier League with seven games still to play. It has been a fascinating season for the Reds losing only once in the league so far to Watford 0-3 in February.

Christian Pulisic gave the lead to the Blues with a superb solo effort in the 36th minute. A miscommunication between Mendy and Gundogan gave Pulisic the ball inside his own half. The American with his sheer pace scurried past Gundogan and Mendy to reach the City goalmouth. He kept his cool to curl the ball past an advancing Ederson into the net. City leveled the score with a deft freekick from Kevin de Bruyne in the 55th minute of the match. N’Golo Kante’s foul on Mahrez gave Guardiola’s side a freekick outside the boss and De Bruyne made no mistake with his effort over the Chelsea wall and into the top corner. The hosts found the winner through a penalty strike by Willian Borges in the 78th minute as VAR replay showed Fernandinho handling the ball at the goalline. The Brazilian was shown the marching orders for his effort.

In another Premier League encounter Arsenal registered a 2-0 win over Southampton. Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willcock were the scorers for the Gunners. The win saw Mikel Arteta’s side climb to ninth spot in the league with 43 points.
