Premier League 2018/19: The three most nail-biting matches of the season

XtraTime Web Desk:
The Premier League season has just got finished. The season was probably the most competitive one in recent times. Hence, xtratime.in picks the three best matches of the season. Here it goes:

Manchester City 2-1 Liverpool : Taking everything into context, this game will be remembered as the most important fixture of the season. Liverpool was undefeated in 20 matches and had a seven-point advantage over the home side in the lead up to the game. Sergio Aguero scored from an improbable angle past Alisson in the first half where City wasn’t at its fluent best before Liverpool equalised from a flowing move which culminated with Firmino nodding the ball into the net. Then, against the run of play, City regained the lead through Leroy Sane to condemn Liverpool to its first and as it turned out its only defeat of the Premier League campaign.
Manchester United 3-2 Newcastle United: This match was a rare bright spot in an otherwise underwhelming season for the Red Devils and its former boss Jose Mourinho. The Magpies stunned the Stretford end by scoring twice inside the first 10 minutes of the game to further provide evidence that it had all the makings of Mourinho’s third season syndrome. Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez scored in the last 20 minutes of the game to complete a stunning turnaround with Sanchez’s winner coming right at the death. Interestingly, that was the only time the Chilean forward scored in the league this season. Unfortunately for Mourinho, the win only denied the inevitable as he was sacked two months later after a string of poor results.
Bournemouth 3-3 Watford: If you are looking for high-scoring thrillers from the season, one need not look past matches involving AFC Bournemouth. While being the seventh highest scoring team this season, the Cherries’ defensive record is also the third worst in the division. And no game encapsulated its season better than the six-goal slugfest against Watford at the Dean’s Court at the turn of the New Year. All six goals came in the first half of the match during which both teams scored four during a seven-minute period. The second half turned into a scrappy fight between the two sides as they both ended up settling for a point apiece.
