Police detain protesting wrestlers for trying to breach security cordon, Sakshi Malik shares video

Xtra Time Web Desk: Country’s top wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia were detailed by Delhi Police on Sunday as they tried to breach the security cordon while marching towards the new Parliament building.

In what can be described as disturbing scenes, police were seen literally dragging the women wrestlers from the protest site. Delhi Police officials were also seen clearing the protest site where the wrestlers had resumed their agitation against the Wresting Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on April 23.

Here is the video shared by Sakshi Malik on Twitter:

All the protesting wrestlers were detained and forcefully boarded in buses by Police.

The Delhi Police had beefed up the security at Jantar Mantar following protesting wrestlers’ call for a ‘Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat’. Thousands of police personnel were deployed and multiple layers of barricades were in place to control.

Delhi police officers were seen clearing the protest site by removing the cots, mattresses, cooler fans and the tarpaulin ceiling along with other belongings of the wrestlers.
