Internet Desk: Prime Minister of India wished the Rio bound athletes good luck meeting them personally. Today athletes were delighted meeting Narendra Modi and promised him a good show in Brazil.

This year the highest number of athletes have selected for the Olympic Games. Till now more than 100(103) athletes have been selected for the games. Some more athletes are still in some qualifying tournaments ahead of Rio Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association and sports’ ministry of India expects that the number will reach 110. Previously the highest number of athletes attending Olympics was 83 in the London
Olympic 2012. Gradually the number of Olympic attendees is increasing which gives enough scope for the country to win Olympic medals.

Today more than 60 athletes met PM Narendra Modi. Competing sportspersons from 13 categories as well as some coaches met PM at Manekshaw Centre. Not only competing athletes but also former Olympians accompanying this year’s team met Narendra Modi. Among them were Anju Bobby George, M. C. Mary Kom.

Players like boxer Shiva Thapa, Manoj Kumar, wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt shooter Gagan Narang, shuttler P. V. Sindhu attended today’s programme.  Later they tweeted their photos with Narendra Modi. They are taking this meeting as huge inspiration before their journey.

Several coaches today attended the greeting programme. Badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, boxing coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu and chief coach of women’s’ hockey Neil Hawgood were also among the attendees. The entire women’s’ hockey team accompanied their coach.

In this programme apart from the athletes there were honorable officials from Indian sports world.  Union sports minister Jitendra Singh, sports secretary Rajiv Yadav, Indian Olympic Association President N Ramachandran, Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, Hockey India President Narinder Batra, All India Council of Sports (AICS) Chairman Vijay Malhotra were present to wish them good luck.
