Pant, Iyer partnership rescue India on Day 2 of second test at Mirpur | BANvsIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: A brilliant 159 runs partnership for the fifth wicket between Rishabh Pant (93 off 104 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (87 off 105 balls) helped India resurrect their innings on Day 2 of the second test match between India and Bangladesh at Sher e Bangla stadium on Friday. The visitors posted 314 all out in the first innings. Bangladesh in their second innings is 7/0, trailing India by 80 runs at stumps on Day 3.

India were in a spot with the score on 94 for 4 after they lost Virat Kohli immediately after the lunch. The former India captain was undone by pacer Taskin Ahmed, as he edged a delivery outside the off stumps to be caught by the Nurul Hasan.

Earlier in the day, captain KL Rahul’s struggles continued as he was out LBW to Taijul Islam for 10. The Bangladesh left arm spinner also got rid of Shubman Gill (20) and Cheteshwar Pujara (24).

It looked like Bangladesh’s 227 was a good total after Taijul Islam and Taskim Ahmed’s strikes but Rishabh Pant quickly put the pressure back on Bangladesh with a fine counter-attacking knock. Shreyas Iyer initially began shakily but he found his rhythm soon and joined Pant as they both played aggressively against the Bangladesh bowlers.

Pant’s knock was studded hit 5 sixes and 7 boundaries before he was dismissed for 93 runs after he got a faint edge of Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 68th over. Iyer at the other end hit 2 sixes and 10 boundaries for his 105-ball 87.

After Shakib got Iyer, the rest of the Indian batting order failed to put up a firm resistance. Axar Patel (4), R Ashwin (12), Jaydev Unadkat (14), Umesh Yadav (14 not out) and Mohammed Siraj (7) made sure they chipped in to take India past 300.

For Bangladesh, captain Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam finished with 4 wickets each with the latter getting the crucial wickets at the top.
