XtraTime Web Desk: Indian cricket over the years has been blessed with a plethora of brilliant captains. There have been some great leaders in Indian cricket beginning with Tiger Pataudi to the current captain Virat Kohli. But two captains who stood out were Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. Every captain has his own way of leading a team, making some tactical changes which proved to be masterstrokes in long run. One such masterstroke from former India captain Sourav Ganguly was to promote MS Dhoni at No 3 in an ODI against Pakistan at Vishakapatnam. It was on this day (April 05) in 2005 when MS Dhoni after being promoted up the batting order grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He (Dhoni) played a scintillating knock of 148 runs off only 123 balls at a staggering strike rate of 120.32– a knock that marked his arrival as the "next big thing in Indian cricket". Dhoni plundered the Pakistan bowling line up on that day, hitting all over the park. His knock included 15 boundaries and 4 sixes. Ganguly wanted to try something different with Dhoni as he was a failure since then, not been able to make a mark in the first four matches of the series. So, he (Sourav Ganguly) promoted the long haired Dhoni up the batting order at No.3 to see if his decision clicked. Dhoni not only justified his decision but announced his arrival in world cricket. Dhoni has so far played 350 ODI’s scoring 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57. He has scored 10 tons with a highest score of an unbeaten 183* against Sri Lanka in 2005.
