Internet Desk: I.M. Vijayan becomes the second Indian footballer to have a stadium named after him. A state government project, the indoor stadium is being built in Thrissur, Kerala.

The only other Indian footballer to have a stadium named after him is former captain Bhaichung Bhutia; a football stadium bears his name in his home state of Sikkim. Vijayan and Bhaichung were legendary striker partners in national team and the former has scored 40 goals for the national team.

The Kerala government has said that the stadium will be operational in 1 year. I.M. Vijayan said that, “Its a great feeling. I am obliged by the respect.” Vijayan had coached Southern Samity previously in the CFL but now3 he is coaching the Kerala Police football team and is not interested to coach any big team.
