Xtra Time Web Desk: National Games 2022 will start from 27th September in Gujarat where Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra along with the badminton players PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth have decided not to participate. Among them, Neeraj Chopra was the first athlete to decide to withdraw his name from the event officially on Friday.

Neeraj Chopra said “as per my schedule planned at the start of the year, Zurich Diamond League was supposed to be my last event of the season. I would have participated at the Asian Games around this time but that was postponed. We already knew about it, so my season ended with the Zurich event. The dates for the National Games were announced recently. I have consulted with my coach (Dr Klaus Bartonietz) and he advised me to rest and prepare for the crucial season next year, which includes the World Championships and Asian Games.” He felt a bit risky in participating in this event after his recent recovery from groin injury.

PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth also decided to skip this upcoming event. As per the sources, Sindhu and Srikanth have already started their preparation for the Denmark and French Open starting from October 18 and October 25 respectively.
