Kozhikode: Ukrainian side Dnipro FC defeated Irish side Shamrock Rovers 2-0 in the fourth match of the 36th Sait Nagjee Cup in Kozhikode. Goals from Kochergin and supersub Kiryeyev sealed the deal for Dnipro. Kochegin was adjudged the Man of the Match.
FC Dnipro created frequent attacks in Shamrock Rovers FC defence during the entire first half. Denys Balaniuk of Dnipro flashed a shot above the bar just 12minutes inside the match. Left back Lopyronok got the chance to make it 1-0 for Dnipro but the shot was just wide of the post which could have given the lead to Dnipro. Kochergin created a lot of problems for the Irish side. For the first 20 minutes Dnipro looked more threatening.
Dnipro got rewarded in the 32nd minute of the match through a Kochergin blinder of a Denys Balaniuk assist. It was long ranger shot and the goalkeeper had no chance to stop it. Simon Madden of Shamrock created some chances but could not get the all important goal. At the end of the first half the Ukrainian side lead 1-0.
In the beginning of the second half Shamrock Rovers created a few chances. They used their flanks well. Shamrock got a few corners and free kicks but failed to utilize those opportunities. In the 76th minute of the match Dnipro got a chance to make it 2-0. It was a through an attacking move from Vakulko giving a perfect pass for supersub Kiryeyev to fire past Shamrock’s keeper Hyland to make it 2-0 for the Ukrainian side. Both the teams brought in some changes in the second half just to cope with the conditions. The Shamrock players tried to get into the match , making some attacks in the last 10 minutes but it was all in vain as Dnipro held on to their 2-0 lead .
