Xtra Time Web Desk: It is a rare sight to see MS Dhoni lose his cool on a cricket field. A man known for his calm demeanour; Dhoni lost his cool not once but twice in the IPL 2023 game against Rajasthan Royals at the Swai Man Singh Stadium on Thursday.
What exactly happened that made the Chennai Super Kings captain angry on the pitch. It was the sixteenth over of the RR innings. Dhoni tried to hit the stumps at the non-strikers’ end directly. But Matheesha Pathirana unintentionally stopped it, leading to Dhoni losing his cool.
The second incident happened on the final ball of the Rajasthan innings. Devdutt Padikkal nearly cleared the leg side of the infield with a powerful shot into the air. Shivam Dube grabbed the ball, but his throw was wayward as the batters capitalized on it and ran three runs. Dhoni expressed his anger at Dube by staring at him aggressively.
This is not the first time that Captain Cool has expressed his anger on the field in this edition of IPL. He was quite angry at Moeen Ali when he made a fielding error during RCB’s run chase at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on April 17.
Dhoni is admired for his ability to maintain composure under pressure, whether during a chase or when defending a total. The 41-year-old however is losing his composure far too many times, perhaps an indication that he is getting frustrated with his age catching up.
