Xtra Time Web Desk: An unbeaten 10th wicket partnership between Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38 off 39) and Mustafizur Rahman (10 off 11) saw Bangladesh clinch one wicket win in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium on Sunday. The hosts were staring a big loss after losing 9 wickets for 136 runs. But the duo of Mehidy and Mustafiur stitched an unbroken partnership of 51 runs to see their team home with 24 balls to spare. KL Rahul dropped Mehidy when he was on 15 and that eventually proved costly.

Chasing 187 runs to win, Bangladesh was looking down the barrel with 9 wickets lost for 136 runs on board. Indian bowlers led by Mohammed Siraj (10-1-32-3) and Washington Sundar (5-0-17-2) were on top. Debutant Kuldeep Sen also picked two wickets but was a bit expensive.

Bangladesh captain Litton Das (41 off 63) and Shakib al Hasan (29 off 38) made useful contribution with the bat, adding 48 runs after two quick wickets fell. But the dismissal of Litton and Shakib saw a sudden collapse as the hosts were reduced from 95/3 to 136/9. With still 52 runs required, Mehidy Hasan stepped up. Mustafizur stayed strong with a resilient 10-run knock. From the other end, Miraz smashed 38 off 39 to take Bangladesh home.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan took a fifer (10-2-36-5) and Ebadot Hossain’s 4/47 helped Bangladesh restricted India for 186. KL Rahul did wage a lone battle with a 73-run knock. But with hardly any support from the other end, India failed to cross even 200-run mark.

The second ODI will be played at the same venue on Wednesday (December 7).
