Md Sporting’s sensational run continues, beats Peerless to go on top

Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting’s sensational run in the Calcutta Football League Premier Division ‘A’ continues, as the Black Panthers defeated the biggest title contenders Peerless AC by 2-0 at their club ground on Monday. The win puts Mohammedan’s chances stronger to clinch the title for the first time since 1981. East Bengal too now has a great chance to lift the title if they can manage to win their remaining games.

After a goal-less first half, first Karim Omolaja and then Vanlalbia Chhangte scored two back to back goals in the second half to secure the full three points from the game.

It was Peerless though who had a great opportunity to take the lead in the second half when Anthony Wolfe was tripped inside the box and Jiten Murmu failed to convert from the penalty spot. Though Mohammedan took that as a chance to make a comeback into the game. The absence of league’s leading goalscorer Ansumana Kromah seemed to be the deciding factor for Jahar Das’ team.

The win puts Mohammedan on top of the table with 19 points from 10 games, Peerless on second with 17 points off 9 games and East Bengal on third with 17 points off 9 games.
