Md Siraj climbs to the top spot in ICC ODI bowler rankings; Suryakumar named ODI player of the year 2022

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India speedster Mohammed Siraj climbed to the top spot in ICC ODI bowler rankings for the year 2022, according to the latest rankings released by ICC on Wednesday. The fast bowler from Hyderabad was rewarded for his consistent good show in last one year. It’s a remarkable rise for Siraj, who only returned to India’s ODI setup in February last year following a three-year hiatus without playing a 50-over match at the international level.

Siraj has collected 37 wickets from 20 matches to be one of India’s most consistent fast bowlers in the last year. Siraj now has 729 rating points.

Ace Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav also made big progress in ICC rankings as he was named T20I player of the year 2022. Surya was the leading run scorer in T20 format in 2022, notching 1164 runs off 31 innings and was the only batter around the world to cross the 1000 run mark in the last calendar year.

Surya, popularly known as Mr 360 scored nine half centuries and two hundreds, in England and New Zealand last year. The 32-year-old scored another T20I hundred against Sri Lanka in January 2023, becoming only the second Indian batter to do so apart from skipper Rohit Sharma.

Surya was India’s second highest run scorer and third highest overall at the T20 World Cup in Australia, registering 239 runs at a strike rate of 189.68. This included three half centuries.
