Xtra Time Web Desk: Luis Enrique has been removed from the role of coach by Spanish Football Federation following the team’s failure in FIFA World Cup 2022. Luis de la Fuente has been appointed as the new coach of the Spanish national team.

The former Spanish footballer has won the Under-19 European Championship, the Under-21 Euros, the Mediterranean Games in 2018 and was an Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo.

He played for Athletic Club, with whom he won two league titles in the early 1980s.

In May 2013 he arrived at Las Rozas to take charge of the U19s. He was 51 years old and it was the beginning of a path that, nine years later, led him to the highest position with the first team.

Luis de la Fuente is known to most of the players who are part of the group that Luis Enrique has had in his two years as Spain coach. Ferran Torres, Pedri, Gavi, Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia and others have developed under the Fuente.

Spain was knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 pre-quarter final after defeat against Morocco in penalty shootout.
