Both legends leave a significant gap in the team, and during a recent podcast, veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla weighed in on the potential successors, highlighting Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad as future stars.
In an engaging discussion with Shubhanker Mishra, Chawla was direct in naming Shubman Gill as his top choice to step into Kohli and Sharma’s shoes. "Shubman Gill is at the top of my list," Chawla emphasized. "His technique is impeccable. When a batter goes through a rough patch, technique often helps them recover, and Gill’s is solid and dependable, making him the ideal successor."

Chawla believes Gill’s versatility across formats further solidifies his potential to become a key figure in Indian cricket. At just 25, Gill has already amassed 1492 Test runs, 2338 in ODIs, and 578 in T20Is, proving his capability across formats.
Chawla also picked Ruturaj Gaikwad as another promising talent. Though Gaikwad has played fewer matches than Gill, his performances have stood out. "Ruturaj Gaikwad is another special player," Chawla said. “He’s had setbacks with injuries and selection, but whenever given a chance, he has shown flair. His 633 T20I runs are commendable."

Gaikwad’s journey, though shorter, is filled with promise. In six ODIs and 23 T20Is, he has scored a total of 748 runs, proving his consistency and potential to become a future cornerstone for India.
