Xtra Time Web Desk: Young Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma had a memorable encounter with legendary Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram during the high-voltage Champions Trophy match between India and Pakistan on Sunday, February 23, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Among the notable attendees were Suryakumar Yadav, Rajeev Shukla, ICC chairman Jay Shah, and a star-studded commentary panel featuring Akram, Sunil Gavaskar, Aaron Finch, and others.
Akram, Pakistan’s all-time leading wicket-taker, took a moment to commend Abhishek for his stunning century against England earlier in February at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. In a viral video, Akram was seen offering valuable advice to the young batter, urging him to stay focused and continue his hard work.

Abhishek had been in sensational form in Mumbai, smashing India’s second-fastest T20I century off just 37 balls. He also recorded India’s second-fastest fifty, reaching the milestone in 17 deliveries, as he dismantled the English bowling attack on a batting-friendly pitch.

The 24-year-old had earlier announced his arrival on the international stage with a maiden T20I century against Zimbabwe in July 2024, following impressive performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Meanwhile, India secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy clash. Chasing 242, Virat Kohli starred with his 51st ODI century, while Shreyas Iyer contributed a half-century and Shubman Gill played a handy knock. India reached the target with 45 balls to spare, further solidifying their dominance in the tournament.
