Xtra Time Web Desk: Prithvi Shaw recently broke his silence after being omitted from Mumbai's squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, one of the notable exclusions alongside Ajinkya Rahane. In an Instagram story, Shaw expressed his frustration over the decision, sharing a screenshot of his impressive List-A career statistics: 65 innings, 3399 runs, an average of 55.7, and a strike rate of 126. "Tell me God, what more do I have to see? If this is not good enough, I will keep my faith in you. People still believe in me, and I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram," Shaw wrote.

The 25-year-old opener had been part of Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning squad but struggled with the bat, managing only 197 runs in 9 matches. His struggles continued in the final, where he scored just 10 runs against Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, Shaw went unsold in the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, adding to his woes.

Earlier, Shaw was left out of Mumbai’s squad for the first phase of the Ranji Trophy, a move seen as a wake-up call for the young batter. In 2024, he has managed only 59 runs in four Ranji Trophy innings, which led captain Shreyas Iyer to call for introspection. While Iyer acknowledged Shaw’s raw talent, he emphasized the need for improved work ethics.

"I think he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he has, no one possesses that. But he needs to improve his work ethics," Iyer said. "He has played enough cricket, and everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to figure things out for himself."
