Xtra Time Web Desk: Ravindra Jadeja might not be in the best form, but legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes the all-rounder’s value should not be questioned. Despite Jadeja's below-par performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, Gavaskar insists his overall contribution to the team is indispensable.

Jadeja, yet to showcase his best in the multi-nation competition, has scored only 16 runs at an average of 8 and a strike rate of 145.45. His bowling has also been underwhelming, with only one wicket taken at an economy rate of 7.80. In the match against Australia on June 24, Jadeja managed an unbeaten 9 off 5 balls and bowled just one over when Glenn Maxwell was on the attack.

However, Gavaskar, also known as the Little Master, believes Jadeja's past records and experience make him a valuable player. "I am not at all concerned as he is very experienced. For whatever opportunities he's got, he's done well. And don't forget, in the field itself, he saved 20 to 30 runs with his fielding ability, taking catches, and getting the run out," said Gavaskar on Star Sports. "Anything he does with the bat and ball is an added value to his ability."

Gavaskar criticized the quick judgments of Indian fans and media, highlighting the undue pressure placed on players after a few poor performances. "The problem with India and Indian fans is, two bad games and you go 'what to do with him, what to do with him?'. Nobody who asks these questions even thinks about their own professions, whether they have made two errors and whether people are questioning their place in their own profession. You don't question Jadeja's place in the playing XI. He's a rock star," Gavaskar added.

India's journey to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup has been impressive, with a significant victory over Australia by 24 runs. Rohit Sharma's remarkable 92-run innings earned him the Player of the Match award. In the upcoming semi-final, India will face Jos Buttler’s England at the Providence Stadium.
