Xtra Time Web Desk:The T20 World Cup 2024 final, which ended India's 13-year wait to lift an ICC trophy, drew a peak viewership of 5.3 crore on the OTT streaming platform Disney Hotstar. However, it fell short of the record audience set during last year's ODI World Cup final match in November 2023.

The India-South Africa ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup final on 29 June, Saturday saw a peak viewership of nearly 5.3 crore on Disney Hotstar. In comparison, the India-Australia final in the 50-overs format on November 20, 2023, recorded a peak viewership of 5.9 crore, even though India ended on the losing side. This 5.9 crore remains the record for peak concurrency for live streaming of any cricket match, according to industry experts.

The knockout match between India and Australia in the T20 Cricket World Cup on June 24 achieved a peak concurrency of 3.9 crore.

Disney Star holds exclusive broadcast and media rights for both linear and digital platforms. Saturday's final match was also telecast live on the Star Sports network, but viewership numbers from television will be released by the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) in a week.

Karan Taurani, SVP of Elara Capital, noted that while the final match on Saturday did not reach the record number, it was significant that 4 to 4.5 crore viewers were consistently watching due to the nail-biting finish. "There was a longer timeframe of having 4 to 4.5 crore viewers, which was not there in the India-Australia final match last year," he added.

Even during the post-match ceremony, viewership remained between 2.5 to 3 crore viewers, which was noteworthy.
