Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has drawn a compelling comparison between the young opening pair of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal and the legendary duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. Uthappa noted that the synergy between Gill and Jaiswal on the field evokes memories of Tendulkar and Ganguly, the most successful opening partnership in ODI history.

Tendulkar and Ganguly amassed 6609 runs from 136 innings at an average of 49.32, featuring 21 century partnerships and 23 half-century stands. Uthappa sees a similar dynamic between Gill and Jaiswal, highlighting how their strategies and styles complement each other. \

“When I watch them, I’m reminded of the partnership between Sachin and Sourav, where their games complemented each other perfectly,” Uthappa commented on Sony Sports Network.

Gill and Jaiswal have already demonstrated promise in their nine innings together, scoring 516 runs at an impressive average of 64.50, including two century stands and two half-century partnerships. Uthappa also expressed confidence in Jaiswal's ability to excel in ODIs once given the opportunity. Despite not yet featuring in an ODI, Jaiswal's performances in Tests and T20Is suggest he will thrive in the 50-over format.

“In ODI cricket, I believe Jaiswal will quickly establish himself. After succeeding in Tests and T20Is, he’ll find ODIs easier, giving him ample time to score runs,” Uthappa added.

Jaiswal, 22, has already made a strong impact in international cricket. In nine Tests, he has scored 1028 runs at an average of 68.53, with three centuries and four fifties. In T20Is, he has accumulated 713 runs from 21 innings at an average of 37.52, including one century and five fifties.
