Xtra Time Web Desk: India captain Rohit Sharma downplayed any worries regarding his team's ability to handle spin bowling despite a 2-0 series loss to Sri Lanka, concluded on Wednesday, August 7, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India struggled significantly against spin throughout the series, losing 27 wickets to Sri Lankan spinners in the three matches.

In the final ODI, India was bowled out for 138 while chasing 249, leading to a 110-run defeat and Sri Lanka securing their first series win over India since 1997. Despite the disappointing outcome, Rohit Sharma maintained that facing spin is not a major concern for the team. He also dismissed any notions of complacency within the squad.

"I don't think it is a concern. But it is something we have to look at individually and as a gameplan. It is a joke; when you are playing for India there is never going to be complacency. When I am captain there is no chance of complacency. But you have to give credit to good cricket. Sri Lanka played better than us. We looked at the conditions and went with the combinations. There are also guys who need to be looked at, and hence the changes," said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation.

Acknowledging the series loss, Rohit emphasized the importance of bouncing back and learning from defeats. "There are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives. These things happen, series lost is not the end of the world. You will lose an odd series here and there, but it is about how you come back after the loss," he added.

India's Struggles Against Spin

India's performance against spin was notably poor, with the team losing 27 wickets to spin—the highest by any team in a three-match bilateral series. Sri Lankan spinners Jeffrey Vandersay (8 wickets), Dunith Wellalage (7 wickets), and Charith Asalanka (6 wickets) were particularly effective, consistently troubling the Indian batters.

Following this series loss, India will regroup and prepare for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh, which includes two Tests and three T20Is, beginning on September 19.
