Xtra Time Web Desk: In a recent press conference before the Indian cricket team’s tour of Sri Lanka, newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir articulated his vision and goals for the team’s continued success. Taking over from Rahul Dravid, Gambhir aims to build on the team’s recent triumphs, including their historic T20 World Cup victory in the Caribbean and the United States.

Gambhir, who made headlines with his successful stint as a mentor for the Knight Riders in the IPL 2024, expressed his eagerness to contribute to a "happy dressing room" and maintain the high standards set by the team. The Indian team, under Gambhir’s leadership, will look to continue their winning streak after securing the T20 World Cup title, finishing as runners-up in the World Test Championship, and the ODI World Cup.

During the press conference, held prior to the team’s departure for the ODI and T20I series in Sri Lanka, Gambhir shared his straightforward approach to coaching. “I have always said that a happy dressing room is a winning dressing room. That’s my responsibility. For me, I don’t complicate too many things. I am taking over a very, very successful team. T20 World champions, runner-up in World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup. There are issues to fill, but this is a champions’ team,” Gambhir stated.

Gambhir also highlighted his positive relationship with Jay Shah, the honourary secretary of the BCCI. Addressing rumors and speculations, he emphasized the importance of the team’s goals over personal accolades. “I have had a fabulous relationship with Jay Shah. All these speculations about different things. We can do a better job clarifying those things. Gautam Gambhir is not important, the betterment of Indian cricket is important. I have really enjoyed working with him, and I hope it continues that way,” Gambhir added.
