Xtra Time Web Desk: In a gripping third ODI between Sri Lanka and India at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, August 7, Shubman Gill delivered a moment of brilliance with a remarkable catch to dismiss Kusal Mendis, although it wasn't enough to prevent Sri Lanka from clinching the series. Kusal Mendis, who had stepped in after Pathum Nissanka's dismissal in the 20th over, anchored Sri Lanka’s innings with a resolute fifty. He was instrumental in a 36-run partnership with Kamindu Mendis for the seventh wicket, which momentarily steadied the ship after Sri Lanka had slumped to 199/6 from a promising 171/1.

Sri Lanka Cricket took to Instagram to voice their skepticism about the catch, posting an image suggesting Gill's foot may have touched the boundary rope. The post was quickly removed, but not before it drew attention to the contentious decision.

Despite Mendis's dismissal, Sri Lanka secured a commanding 110-run victory, sealing the three-match series 2-0. Chasing a target of 249, India faltered against Sri Lankan spinners. Dunith Wellalage emerged as the hero with a devastating spell, claiming five wickets for just 27 runs. His efforts dismantled India's top order, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.

India was bowled out for 138 in just 26.1 overs, with Rohit Sharma contributing 35 and Washington Sundar adding 30. Earlier, debutant Riyan Parag shone with the ball, taking 3 for 54 and claiming the crucial wicket of Avishka Fernando, who scored 96. Fernando's innings, along with Mendis’s 59, helped Sri Lanka post a competitive total of 248 for 7.
