Xtra Time Web Desk: The Indian cricket team faltered against Sri Lankan spinners during last month's three-match ODI series, ultimately losing 0-2. In the first match, India tied after failing to chase down a modest target of 231. In the second, they were bowled out for 208 while chasing 241, and in the third, India collapsed to 128 all out in pursuit of 249.

India's batting woes, particularly against quality spin, are no longer a secret, with even top names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli finding it tough. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag weighed in on the issue, highlighting several reasons for the struggle.

“One reason is the abundance of white-ball cricket. In T20s, spinners bowl only 24 balls without flighting them, which limits their wicket-taking skills,” Sehwag told Amar Ujala. “Also, Indian players aren’t playing enough domestic cricket, where they would face more spin than at the international level.”

Sehwag further compared the current scenario with his playing days, recalling how domestic cricket helped develop their ability to play spin. “In our time, players like Dravid, Sachin, and Ganguly played a lot of domestic cricket, which gave us ample opportunities to face spinners. But now, with busy schedules and various leagues, players don’t get the same exposure to spin bowling,” he added.
