Xtra Time Web Desk: India captain Rohit Sharma is on the brink of breaking another record in the three-match Test series against New Zealand, which begins on October 16 in Bengaluru. Currently, Rohit has 87 sixes in Test cricket, just three shy of Virender Sehwag’s Indian record of 90 sixes.

Rohit’s recent big-hitting display against Bangladesh in Kanpur has positioned him within reach of this milestone. If he hits three sixes, he will tie Sehwag's record, and a few more could see him surpass the former opener as India's top six-hitter in Tests.

Rohit isn't the only player looking to climb the six-hitting rankings. Ravindra Jadeja, with 66 sixes, is just three behind Sachin Tendulkar and could rise further during the series. Rishabh Pant currently sits on 59 sixes, two shy of Kapil Dev, while Yashasvi Jaiswal has already accumulated 32 sixes in just 20 innings.

In addition to his Test records, Rohit holds the record for the most international sixes across all formats, totaling 623 maximums. He leads comfortably ahead of Chris Gayle (553) and remains far ahead of the next active player, Jos Buttler (340).

Globally, Rohit is tied with Angelo Mathews and Chris Cairns at 87 sixes, and he could soon overtake Tim Southee, Brian Lara, and Sehwag to enter the top five, just behind Jacques Kallis' tally of 97 sixes. The overall Test sixes record is held by Ben Stokes with 131 sixes, followed by Brendon McCullum and Adam Gilchrist.

India and New Zealand will hope rain doesn’t disrupt the series opener, with wet weather forecasted in Bengaluru.
