Xtra Time Web Desk: Rumors are swirling around the venue for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, with indications that it will likely take place outside of India. After the IPL 2024 auction was held in Dubai, reports suggest that Saudi Arabia was considered as a potential venue. However, the high costs associated with hotels and venues in Saudi Arabia have raised concerns for both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and franchise owners. According to Cricbuzz, Singapore has now surfaced as a viable option for the auction, scheduled for late November.

In other IPL news, the five-time champions Mumbai Indians have reappointed Mahela Jayawardene as their head coach. Jayawardene previously held this role from 2017 to 2022, during which he led the franchise to three championship victories. Following IPL 2022, he transitioned to the role of Global Head of Cricket for Mumbai Indians, overseeing the expansion of their teams across various leagues.

Reflecting on his return, Jayawardene expressed, "My journey within the MI family has always been one of evolution. In 2017, the focus was on bringing together a talented group of individuals to play the best cricket ever, and we did very well." He emphasized the excitement of rejoining the franchise to strengthen the MI legacy further.

Akash Ambani, owner of Mumbai Indians, expressed enthusiasm about Jayawardene's return, citing his leadership and passion for the game as key benefits for MI. Jayawardene’s first task will be to strategize for the IPL 2025 mega auction, where teams can retain six players—either five capped (Indian & overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped—from their current roster.
